However, what’s a girl to do when the only template she has to work with is a sparse, over-plucked and in many cases, nonexistent brow? Microblading, also referred to as eyebrow embroidery, claims to offer a semi-permanent solution to all your brow stresses.
Different from a conventional cosmetic tattoo, microblading is a process where a technician uses a small, hand-held blade to administer pigment under the upper layers of the skin. Lasting anywhere from 6 months to 2 years (depending on a person’s skin type and how it is maintained), microblading can cut down on mirror time and offer freedom for those desperate for a flawless brow.

Research, Research, Research
Microblading is on par with other less extreme medical cosmetic procedures and should be taken seriously. Start by doing your research on those offering the service, ask for references, and check reviews online. Most importantly, request an in-person consultation where you can discuss the technician’s credentials and see if they are a good fit.
Prepare To Groom
One of the greatest misconceptions in regards to microblading, something I have personally experienced with clients, is that you will no longer have to groom your brows. This is not the case – Microblading implants semi-permanent pigment under the skin, it does not illuminate hair growth. So you must continue your regularly grooming ritual to keep your brow shape looking clean and fresh.
Communicate And Be Realistic
It is important to communicate your preferred outcomes to your technician in order to be on the same page. However, be realistic and understand that your technician knows best, and although input is preferred, they have the knowledge and background to decide what shape, thickness and pigment colour is best.
Cover Up
Aftercare is the most important aspect of microblading, so take care for 30 days following the procedure – stay out of the sun, wear a hat and cover you brows with a high level sunscreen. Sun exposure will cause the pigment to fade at a rapid rate and it compromises the healing process.
